Mapping Project #6

single channel video

3:00

2010-12

Start with a purposely absurd premise: would visually combining maps of America (all gathered haphazardly from online sources) clarify the subject represented? Is total comprehension achievable if every available map were added?

The video tests the theory, as transparent maps are continually superimposed. Peculiar combinations of information and images form and then disappear.

The video is a prototype for a web-based version which will continually add new maps as they are produced, forming an ever shifting 'map' of America.
